| Country: | Thailand |

| Description: | We are a small British International School based on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. The school follows the British Curriculum and provides all subjects in a full immersion environment. We follow QCA documents using a thematic approach and the new literacy and numeracy primary strategy. All of our teachers are fully qualified holding a PGCE or equivalent.
We are a relatively small school with class sizes no larger than 16. Due to this we are unable to offer benefits such as flights and medical insurance but we can assist you to find a place to live. You can definitely find cheaper places to live on the island, some basic places start at 3,000bht per month. Unfortunately we don't have any staff accommodation. However, if enough people were interested we could maybe try to organise a house share? The benefit of teaching at our school is that we are extremely supportive and have an excellent team of teachers to provide you with guidance and help in your first year of teaching. We provide mentor times once a week in the first term along with observations to guide your professional development. There are also opportunities to involve yourself with curriculum development, which you would may not find in other schools. The teaching hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30am-4:00pm. Classes run from 9am to 3pm for Foundation Stage 1 and 9am to 3:30pm for Year 1 and upwards. Each day the children learn Thai for one hour, which can be used as preparation time. Holidays are 1 week in October, 3 weeks in December, one week in February, 2 weeks in April, 1 week in June and 1 month in August. All holidays are paid leave, aside from the August holiday if you are not continuing your contract. The salary we offer is 30,000bht per month (the school covers your tax expenses) and there are opportunities to earn extra money through extra-curricular activities. The cost of living in Thailand is low and the school provides you with lunch, so outgoings are relatively low. The school will provide you with a work permit and pay for visa and tax costs.
The location of the school is in the village of Lamai about 15 minutes from the beach. Koh Phangnan and Koh Tao (diving islands) are roughly a one hour boat ride from the island of Koh Samui. You can reach Krabi and Phuket through a short 40 min flight or by boat/mini-bus/car (4hours). It is also an excellent location for people wanting to travel and see more of Asia. If you are interested, please send me your CV along with a current photograph of yourself and I can provide you with further details about the job and send you a sample contract to look through. We also have an overseas consultant who will be meeting with teachers on the 30th May in York, UK if you would like to discuss any questions you may have about the school. For more information you can also see the school web-site www.samuischool.com, although the web-site is a little out of date and is currently being revised and we have a school video on utube (just type Samui Centre of Learning Thailand) I look forward to hearing from you.
